Well it’s just over a week to go until the big day.
Sitting in my office in Dean Street, just above Newcastle’s popular quayside, I watch the thousands of people dressed in their finery, heading down to the myriad of bars and restaurants which will be doing a huge amount of business providing food, drink, music and entertainment to those lucky enough to be able to afford it.
Whilst I wish them all well (the party-goers and the poor restaurant and bar staff), and while I am looking forward to celebrations of my own over the coming weeks, I won’t forget to give a thought to those for whom Christmas is not such a time of joy. The poor, the homeless, the lonely and many others may not enjoy the festive season as much as we can. So give a thought, maybe a donation, or even just your time to help someone this Christmas. Even a random act of kindness or a smile can make a real difference.
Merry Christmas to all!
